Privacy Policy

CarOutlay's cost calculations run in your browser. You can calculate and download a report without providing an email address. Saved summaries, shared links, optional email forms and normal web requests have different data handling, described below.

What we do and don't collect

• Calculations and saved summaries: the TCO calculator processes inputs locally and may save the latest comparison summary in this browser's local storage. Clear this site's browser data to remove that summary. Downloaded reports remain wherever you save them.
• Shared scenarios: new TCO links put the scenario inputs after the # in the URL. Anyone with the link can read and reproduce those inputs. The fragment is not part of the HTTP request, but remains visible in your browser history and to scripts running on the page. Older links with query parameters can include inputs in web requests and request logs.
• No quote forms: we don't host mortgage, insurance, or title quote forms, so we never collect the personal information those require.
• Email (optional): newsletter forms send the address you enter to our service. A dataset-update request also includes the tool, dataset version and request time. We store these requests; the dataset-update form does not currently activate email delivery. We don't sell or rent email addresses.
• Hosting and analytics: Cloudflare serves the site and receives normal request information such as the requested URL and network information. Basic web analytics help us understand page use. A clearly labeled sponsored-link click may send its destination, placement, product and page path to our analytics service.

Outbound partner links

When you click a clearly-labeled partner link, you leave CarOutlay and go to that company's own site, which has its own privacy policy. Anything you enter there is governed by their terms, not ours. See how we make money for details.

Your rights

To request access to or deletion of an email subscription or update request, contact hello@caroutlay.com. Browser summaries and downloaded reports stay on your device; remove them using your browser or file controls.
